Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- All BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty who are involved in mentoring BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine medical and\/or graduate students for their research projects and have been faculty at least 3 years.<\/li>\n
- Each category of award is a lifetime achievement award; thus, cannot be a previous category winner, however, is eligible for other category (i.e. MD category winner is eligible for GMS & vice versa).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Criteria for nomination:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Though these criteria are not exhaustive, competitive nominees will have demonstrated some of the following:<\/p>\n
- \n
- Provide valuable\u00a0<\/span>guidance and support<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>throughout the research project(s).<\/li>\n
- Committed to\u00a0<\/span>students\u2019 career development, and professional development<\/strong><\/li>\n
- Enhance the student\u2019s research skills<\/strong>, including experimental techniques, data analysis, problem-solving and scientific writing.<\/li>\n
- Inspire diverse\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>students by being a role model within the academic and research community.<\/li>\n
- Receive positive feedback from students<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>regarding the research mentorship experiences.<\/li>\n
- Assist student\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>research output and involvement in research publications<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>at conferences or other scholarly activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Nomination Process:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>A formal nomination letter addressing the most outstanding research mentoring attributes of the faculty based on above criteria should be submitted to BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Awards Committee (camedfao@bu.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n
The nomination letter should not exceed two pages with minimum font 11 point and must include:<\/p>\n

- Nominee\u2019s name and the academic status (i.e. M1, M2, PhD candidate, Master\u2019s students or recent graduate -including graduation year)<\/li>\n
- Length and frequency of research mentorship (i.e. one year every day, one day\/week for one year, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/article>\n

BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Selected as Participant in Endocrine Society\u2019s Medical School Engagement Program<\/span><\/p>\n
Eleven universities awarded spots in inaugural class<\/span><\/li>\n
- Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine will be one of 11
\nparticipating colleges and universities in the Endocrine Society\u2019s 2025\u20132026 Medical
\nSchool Engagement Program class.<\/span><\/li>\n- The Endocrine Society launched the Medical School Engagement Program in 2024 to
\nencourage more medical students to pursue careers in endocrinology. Endocrinologists
\nare specialists who unravel the mysteries of hormone disorders to care for patients and
\ncure disease. They treat conditions including diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders,
\nosteoporosis, infertility, growth problems, and menopausal symptoms.
\nProgram awardees will receive resources and opportunities to show students the clinical
\nand intellectual vibrancy of endocrinology.<\/span><\/li>\n- During the 2025\u20132026 academic year, BU and ten other medical schools will receive
\nsupport for endocrinology-focused initiatives, including:
\n– Providing funding to support faculty-led Endocrinology Interest Groups for medical
\nstudents highlighting the best of endocrine practice and research
\n– Supporting two Excellence in Endocrinology Awards at each institution
\n– Funding attendance at the Society\u2019s annual meeting, ENDO, for students from each <\/span>participant medical school to participate in Endocrine Mentor Day and meet with Society leaders. The program aims to address the shortage of U.S. medical students entering the
\nendocrinology field. This shortage is exacerbated by the declining number of practicing
\nendocrinologists in the United States. More endocrinologists are needed to treat a
\nrapidly growing number of people with endocrine-related diseases.<\/span><\/li>\n- \u201cTimely, ongoing, and engaging mentorship with medical students\u2014starting early, and
\ncontinuing through their educational careers\u2014can play a significant role in increasing
\ninterest in a specialty,\u201d said Dr. Robert W. Lash, the Society\u2019s Chief Medical Officer. \u201cOur
\ngoal is to increase medical students\u2019 interest and enthusiasm in endocrinology as their
\ncareer choice.\u201d

Hello! My name is Rebecca Butler, and I am a second-year MS-SLP student at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. I\u2019m passionate about interprofessional collaboration and I would love your help to advocate for it. In Boston, we have the amazing opportunity of learning alongside students in so many professions, but we don\u2019t always get to cross-communicate with each other about what we\u2019re learning while we\u2019re learning it. This means that we often first encounter each other in the hospital with either preconceived ideas about what different specialties do or no idea at all. Together with students from schools including Harvard, the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Tufts, Boston College, MCPHS, MassBay, and rehabilitation therapy programs at Boston University, (and hopefully you as well!), we would like to change that. We want to host an informal peer-to-peer collaborative event to help healthcare students across schools in Boston better understand what it is we each study all day. This would give us the space to share insights on our field of study, build relationships with one another, and discuss how we can best serve our patients.
