Travis Rotterman<\/a>, a Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine assistant professor of pharmacology, physiology, and biophysics, has been named one of this year\u2019s Boston University Career Development Professors<\/a>\u2014\u201ctalented junior educators emerging as future leaders within their respective fields.\u201d Most of the recipients\u2019 research involves artificial intelligence; all study how digital technology affects our lives or the physical universe we inhabit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rotterdam is the recipient of Ralph Edwards Career Development Professorship, endowed by the estate of Ralph Edwards (CAMED\u201952). He uses cutting-edge genetic and other methods to study the implications of neurological damage for sensory and motor functions. \u201cHis innovative work using models of nerve and spinal cord injury has provided critical insights into the complex circuitry underlying motor adaptations,\u201d writes Hee-Young Park, dean ad <\/em>interim<\/em> and associate dean for faculty affairs. Among Rotterman\u2019s other findings are those that \u201cprovide an important cautionary note on potential critical differences between restoring\/retaining anatomical connectivity after neurological injury and behavioral recovery of function,<\/em>\u201d Park says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
