Andrew Taylor, PhD, FARVO, has stepped down from his role as associate dean of research, effective September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his tenure as associate dean, which spanned 10 years, Dr. Taylor made significant improvements in the school’s research enterprise with more than $10M of shared instrument grants, as well as keeping the Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the forefront of technology, facilitating the creation of the Cryo-EM Core, upgrading the Center for Biomedical Imaging Core, and consolidating and establishing the Integrated Biomedical Imaging Service (IBIS), which combines confocal and electron microscopy instruments into one facility. He was also instrumental in developing the Data Science Core, guided by the school\u2019s faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Taylor has contributed to optimizing research space utilization, including relocating two departments. Additionally, he directed and supervised the redevelopment of the medical student research program to offer research opportunities to medical students throughout their medical training. And, during the challenging research climate surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Taylor played an essential role in maintaining service to the wider community and forward momentum in the sciences on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Taylor was recruited to BU from Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass. Eye and Ear in 2010 and will continue his research here in ocular immunology. He also serves as director and vice chair for research in the Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
