MILESTONES for Humanism and Advocacy

Sample Activities

“Letter to Yourself”: the “Letter to Yourself” is an exercise where first-year students write a letter to themselves asking, “what does it mean to you to be a doctor?” This letter will then be returned to the students during their fourth year to reflect on their growth over the years.

ePortfolio: an online platform offered to students at the beginning of their first year at BUSM to help them catalogue, track, and reflect on their progress in medical school. The portfolio is also used to review students’ progress with their advisors and OSA dean.

Volunteer Community Service: an eclectic group of service-based activities that supports students in nurturing humanism, professionalism, and leadership. Voluntary Community Service complements the BUSM curriculum by providing the opportunity for students to work collaboratively with faculty to better understand the social determinants of health of our most vulnerable populations.
