Biography

Dr. Oh is currently an Assistant Professor in the Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine Program here at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Most recently, he was an Assistant Professor and the one of the founders in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Merrimack College, Massachusetts. He is also a licensed professional counselor and nationally certificated counselor. His research focuses on social/cultural determinants of mental health, sociocultural discrimination (e.g., racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.) in mental health among the underserved population, including racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants and refugees, sexual orientation and gender minority population, the reduction of mental health disparities, and impact of helping professionals’ culturally competent in-session behaviors/skills in therapeutic process and outcome. Since COVID-19 outbreak, he has also conducted several research on the detrimental effect of COVID-19 related racism on mental health of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and potential social/cultural protective factors.
