Dr. Moussavi received her PhD in physiology (comparative neuroendocrinology) from the University of Calgary. She is currently a principal member of the teaching faculty for physiology courses in the School of Medicine, Physician Assistant School, Division of Graduate Medical Sciences, and School of Dentistry. Her primary focus is teaching, advising, and mentoring students, with academic interests in curriculum design, active learning methodologies, case-based learning, team-based learning, and integration of clinical scenarios in the basic sciences. Dr. Moussavi currently serves as the director for the Cardiovascular System and Renal System modules in Principles Integrating Science and Medicine (PrISM), as well as course director of Physician Assistant Physiology. She is also a lecturer in Division of Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) and Dental Medicine programs.
Dr. Moussavi’s teaching roles encompass areas of neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, respiratory physiology, nephrology, and endocrinology.

Dr. Moussavi also serves as an advisor to students in the MAMS program and is the director for professional and career development [previously known as Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BEST) program]. As director, Dr. Moussavi will implement programs and workshops for graduate students to broaden their professional skills, discover training opportunities and introduce them to a variety of STEM career paths. She is committed to assisting MSc and PhD candidates as well as post-doctoral researchers in identifying their career goals and filling the gaps needed to achieve them.

Dr. Moussavi’s research expertise is in the field of molecular neuroendocrinology, with a particular interest in the multi-factorial control of the reproductive and somatic axis.
