Dr. Michael Silverstein is the Director of the Division of General Pediatrics and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at BUSM, as well as the Vice Chairman for Research for the Department of Pediatrics. He attended Harvard University and Harvard Medical School and completed his medical training at the University of Washington, where he also did his fellowship in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. He joined the Boston University faculty in 2004.
Dr. Silverstein’s work focuses on family-based mental health, specifically maternal depression, traumatic stress, and addiction in newborns and infants, among other topics that allow him to exercise his commitment to working with low-income and under-served children. This passion is something Dr. Silverstein pursues here at BMC as well as outside the hospital, having served as the medical Director at Action for Boston Community Development Head Start for more than seven years. He also sits on several committees whose objectives are concerned with improving access to and quality of care for disadvantaged populations. He lives in the Boston area with his wife and two children.
