Biography

As the founding Program Director of the Boston University PA Program, Mary Warner is responsible for the development and oversight of all aspects of the PA Program including faculty and student services. At BU the PA program has focused on developing a successful model of interprofessional education. She received her Master of Medical Science degree from Emory University and practiced in emergency medicine, cardiac surgery and orthopaedic surgery for more than a decade before becoming an educator.

Her leadership in the development and assessment of the physician assistant curriculum is a priority. As a site visitor for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, the body that accredits physician assistant training programs, she is well versed in the standards of excellence for the education of physician assistants. She is also a member of the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants Board of Directors, acting Chair-elect of the Board and has chaired the Research and Test Development Committee.

Recently her manuscript entitled, “Career Patterns of Physician Assistants: A Retrospective Longitudinal Study” has won two publishing awards in 2014 including Research Article of the Year published in Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She was the senior author on the Research Article of the Year awarded by the AAPA in 2015 as well. Her work in Uganda with the Medical Clinical Officer (MCO) profession brought the first continuing medical educational program to practicing MCOs. In addition, she advises and mentors faculty and leads an active research program focusing on longitudinal career patterns of physician assistants and interprofessional education.
