I serve as the Medical Director of the Boston Accountable Care Organization (BACO), a Boston-based ACO with more than 160,000 members and over 1,500 providers. I have been a practicing gastroenterologist at Boston Medical Center for more than 16 years and have served in numerous positions within national organizations including the National Quality Forum and on the Governing Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. I have been a principal investigator on several grants from the National Institutes of Health and have published more than 100 scientific articles and practice guidelines, including original research appearing in such journals as the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA Internal Medicine. My research expertise is broad, including interests in Barrett’s esophagus and gastroesophageal reflux, colonoscopy and bowel preparation, colon cancer screening, population health and risk coding. My research team developed and validated the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale, an instrument for describing preparation adequacy that has been adopted for clinical and research purposes throughout the world.
