Symposium Highlights Medical Students’ Research Projects, Serchuck Award Recipients

Fifty-two medical students who participated in the Medical Student Summer Research Program (MSSRP) during summer 2021 presented the results of their work during the annual Medical Student Research Symposium on Feb. 7 sponsored by the Enrichment Office.

There were 45 posters submitted in the following areas: (4) basic science, (26) clinical research, (3) medical education, (6) public health, (6) quality improvement. Ten medical students who conducted research outside the MSSRP also participated.

“Congratulations to all of you for your outstanding research,” said Karen Antman, MD, BUMC Provost and BUSM Dean, “…particularly given the broad scope of the work, from laboratory mechanism to clinical research and application science. Certainly we don’t yet have effective treatments for many diseases. So I hope that some of you will find that you really enjoy research and will find your career in academia. Even if you do not elect a career in research yourself, having done this work, you will be better collaborators with research colleagues and will find it easier to interpret research studies in journals.”
