Dr. Tara Moore Awarded January Distinguished Faculty of the Month

The Faculty Affairs Office is pleased to announce that Tara Moore, PhD, is January’s Distinguished Faculty of the Month.

Dr. Moore is an Associate Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology and director of the Laboratory of Interventions for Cortical Injury and Cognitive Decline and co-director of the Laboratory of Cognitive Neurobiology, which investigate the effects of aging and age-related disease on the structure and function of the cerebral cortex in non-human primates. She is a member of the Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee; a member of the Animal Research Advisory Committee and Animal Core Advisory Committee. She is also the Director of the MS Program in Forensic Anthropology.

Dr. Moore received a BA in psychology from the University of Calgary and PhD in Anatomy and Neurobiology from BUSM in 2000. She completed training in human remains recovery with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and participated in the development of both the Forensic Anthropology and Biomedical Forensic Sciences MS programs.

The nomination states: “Dr. Moore has been a member of the Boston University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for 10 years.  She was its leader during the transition period when the CRC and BUMC IACUCs merged into one and during the implementation of a new electronic system.  Under Dr. Moore’s leadership, the animal care and use program hosted several successful re-accreditation site visits and inspections by government regulators.”

“She is a resource to her fellow faculty members, helping to navigate them through the complicated world of animal research.
