Priya Garg Named Associate Dean ad interim of Academic Affairs

Priya S. Garg, MD, has been named Associate Dean ad interim of Academic Affairs. She will assume this role upon the previously announced retirement of Douglas Hughes, MD, on July 1, 2018.

Dr. Garg has served as Director of Medical Education and Assistant Dean in Academic Affairs since her arrival at BUSM in January 2017. Over the past year she has led the development of a new clinical assessment form in the third year, developed a new educational quality improvement process for courses and clerkships, led curricular improvements and changes focused on new curricular outcomes and preclerkship integration and was co-chair of an LCME subcommittee and is a member of the LCME task force. Last fall she was the recipient of the BU Office of the Provost Assessment Mini Grant as part of a study to improve medical student assessment in the clinical years.

After completing her pediatric residency and chief residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Dr. Garg joined the faculty at Tufts University School of Medicine, where she served as Pediatric Clerkship Director (2008-2010), Pediatric Residency Program Director (2010-2017) and as Associate Director for Graduate Medical Education Quality and Safety (2014-2017). She also led faculty development programs on educational leadership and teaching and is a faculty mentor in the Academic Pediatric Association’s Educational Scholars Program.

Dr. Garg has received the Tufts University School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award, Outstanding Teacher in the Clerkship Years, and the Natalie Zucker Award for Outstanding Innovation and the J. David Naparstek Community Mentor Award from Tufts University School of Public Health.

Dr. Garg will continue her clinical work as a pediatric hospitalist in the Department of Pediatrics.
