Ikezu Receives Rotary Clubs Award for Alzheimer’s Research

COM-IkezuTsuneya Ikezu, MD, PhD, professor of pharmacology & experimental therapeutics and neurology, has been awarded a $100K research grant from the Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust Fund (CART), a project of the Rotary Clubs of North America. Ikezu is one of six researchers from US institutions receiving the awards.  He will receive his award in May.

Ikezu will test in mouse models a compound that he hypothesizes will reduce the accumulation of tau protein in the brain, and will investigate whether treatment with this compound improves cognitive and motor function.  CART grants provide financial support for Alzheimer’s research projects that are yet to be supported by extensive preliminary data, but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research.  The grants are funded by Rotary members and start with donations of coins and cash at weekly Rotary Club meetings
