Updates from Previous New Investigator Awardees\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Daniel Remick <\/strong>also presented Grand Rounds at Temple University in Philadelphia. The title of his talk was \u201cSepsis, Complex inflammation for a complex disease\u201d<\/li>\n<li>After its successful inspection by the Mayo Labs for the CAP, <strong>Laboratory Medicine <\/strong>has received a full accreditation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daniel Remick, MD<\/strong> moderated a mini-symposium at the same conference \u201cOrgan Dysfunction \u2013 Mechanisms and Therapies\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The Community Health Centers Laboratories, under the direction of<strong> Michael Roehrl, MD, PhD<\/strong>, had a successful inspection from the Joint Commission<\/li>\n<li><strong>Martin Kroll, MD<\/strong> was recently elected to the nominating committee of the AACC (American Association for Clinical Chemistry) Critical and Point of Care Testing<\/li>\n<li>Welcome to new faculty member <strong>Evrim Erdogan, MD<\/strong>; Associate Director of Clinical Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Congratulations on passing the Qualifying Exams!\n<ul>\n<li> <strong>Atsushi Ebata<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> Ed Hartsough<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> Tricia Kao<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sri Srinivasan<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Thank you to all faculty members who assisted with the qualifying exams, with a special Thank You <strong>Dr. Bohdana Burke<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The summer has a flurry of activities going on with students interning from high schools and colleges in several pathology labs!\n<ul>\n<li>The Office of Summer Term\u2019s program, Research Internship in Science and Engineering, is once again in full swing offering rising high school seniors the opportunity to participate in basic science research for six weeks.\u00a0 Forty-three students are places throughout the BU community and the following six are place in the Pathology and Immunology Departments:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gabe Beaudoin<\/strong> in the <strong>Remick Lab<\/strong> hails from Marin Academy in Marin, CA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Greta Gadbois<\/strong> in the<strong> Kurosawa Lab<\/strong> arrives from Amesbury High in Amesbury, MA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Corey Shih<\/strong> in the <strong>Cruickshank Lab<\/strong> comes from Monta Vista High in Cupertino, CA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shannon McCarthy<\/strong> in the<strong> Blusztajn Lab<\/strong> hails from Austin Preparatory School in Reading, MA<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Rebecca Dale<\/strong> in the <strong>Berse Lab<\/strong> comes from Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sabrina Rangi<\/strong> in the <strong>Rifkin Lab<\/strong> arrives from Owosso High in Owosso, MI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Valencia Potter and Mychelle Williams <\/strong>from Xavier University in Louisiana are here in the<strong> Remick Lab <\/strong>as part of the Graduate Medical Sciences Summer Research Program<\/li>\n<li><strong>John Kim, PhD <\/strong>in the Remick Lab has college student <strong>Doo-Yong Bradley Choi<\/strong>, currently a Junior at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada interning\/working on \u201cExpression and purification of a recombinant protein from bacteria\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Presentations:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr. Lija Joseph\u2019s<\/strong> abstract entitled \u201cAssociation Between Insulin Resistance and Macrophage-Mediated Inflammation in Subcutaneous and Visceral Fat Depots in Obese Individuals \u201d was accepted for poster presentation at The Obesity Society\u2019s 2010 Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, California, October 8-12<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Martin Kroll, MD<\/strong> recently presented at the ASCP Workshop for Laboratory Professionals in Newark, NJ.\u00a0 The title of his all day presentation was \u201cQuality Control and Method Evaluation.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Sun-Young Oh<\/strong> from the <strong>Kurosawa Lab<\/strong> presented two posters at the 33rd Annual Shock Society Conference in Portland, Oregon, June 2-7, 2010:<\/li>\n<li><strong>S-Y.
