These workshops will help students, residents, and faculty prepare papers for submission to the peer-reviewed literature. This writing workshop is part of the strategic plan to improve the academic stature of the department and individual faculty. Additionally, pathology residents will be required to submit a draft of a manuscript to the attending pathologist based on her\/his accepted abstract before being reimbursed for travel expenses. There is an expectation that all graduate students will have at least one first author publication prior to their thesis defense.<\/p>\n<p>Format: Each writing workshop will be 30 minutes long and will be held from 12:10 to 12:40.<\/p>\n<p>Target audience: Any member of the department (graduate student, post-doctoral fellow, resident or faculty) who wishes to enhance their scholarly activity will be encouraged to participate.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Writing Workshops<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesdays, 12:10-12:40<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>670 Albany Street \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Floor Conference Room<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Starting July 19<sup>th<\/sup> through September 13<sup>th<\/sup> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #1<\/span> (7\/19): Using Bibliography Software \u2013 Endnote (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #2<\/span> (7\/26): Pre&#8211;writing- preparing the introduction (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #3<\/span> (8\/2): Writing the results section (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #4<\/span> (8\/9): How to prepare graphics part 1 (Kurosawa)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #5<\/span> (8\/16): Writing the methods section (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #6<\/span> (8\/23): Writing the discussion (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #7<\/span> (8\/30): Writing the abstract (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #8<\/span> (9\/6): Selecting appropriate journals for submission and reviewers (Remick)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Workshop #9<\/span> (9\/13): Responding to a critique (Remick)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pathology Writing Workshop &#8211; 2016 The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will hold a series of writing workshops.
