All physicians and services that generate these specimens are also considered the department&#8217;s customers. The Department is responsible for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>all clinical laboratory testing throughout BMC,<\/li>\n<li>assuring appropriate test reliability,<\/li>\n<li>specimen collection,<\/li>\n<li>reference laboratory referrals,<\/li>\n<li>result reporting,<\/li>\n<li>laboratory information systems,<\/li>\n<li>oversight for point-of-care testing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Department is divided into multiple sections each with its own medical director and technical supervisor. The mission of this core is to collect biospecimens from patients that are both diseased and normal and archive them along with clinical annotated history.<\/p>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/research\/collaborative-research-laboratory-core\">Collaborative Research Laboratory CoRe<\/a> is a research pathology lab built to utilize the knowledge and expertise of individuals from both the clinical and the research setting and allows for the ability to network with experts in the pathology field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/research\/labs-core\">Laboratory and Biorepository Research Services (LABS) Core<\/a> is an institutional core housed within the BMC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
