\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This course will serve as<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. An introduction to the methods used in the practice of pathology to study disease and pathophysiology<\/li>\n
  2. A survey of research currently conducted in the field of pathology..<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There are two separate activities for this course; the first is a weekly 2 hour lecture\\discussion where research concepts will be presented by pathology faculty followed by a review of an assigned paper(s) from the basic literature. The second activity will be attendance at the weekly research seminar series in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The students will provide a written evaluation of four of the research seminars.
    \nEach lecture and discussion portion will have the following learning objectives:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Identify the important biologic process examined by these studies<\/li>\n
    2. Describe how the current studies enhance understanding of the biological principle<\/li>\n
    3. Identify the translational opportunities for the studies<\/li>\n
    4. Explain the major techniques used to study this process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Exams:\u00a0 There will be a midterm and a final exam. Both exams will consist of short essay responses to questions from the lecture\\discussion presentations.
      \nThe final grade will be based on:<\/p>\n

      Midterm exam (20%)
      \nFinal exam (40%)
      \nWritten summaries of the research seminars (20%)
