Additionally, the department performs approximately 70 autopsies annually. Laboratory Medicine including transfusion medicine, medical chemistry, medical microbiology, hematology, and hematopathology performs approximately 4.5 million tests annually. We are a national reference laboratory for hemoglobinopathies and an internationally recognized Amyloid treatment center. BMC is a Level One Trauma center supported by our Transfusion Medicine Service and Rapid Response Lab. Molecular Pathology services including molecular microbiology and molecular genetics supported by experienced and fellowship trained faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The Joint Commission and are CLIA certified and participate in team inspections at other institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clinical faculty typically hold clinical staff appointments at Boston Medical Center and academic appointments at Boston University Chobanian &amp; Avedisian School of Medicine.\u00a0 Clinical faculty and support staff participate in residents\u2019 education through clinical service work and didactic teaching sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>View our Pathology &amp; Laboratory Medicine faculty profiles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.org\/medical-professionals\/pathology-laboratory-medicine\/team\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department of Pathology &amp; Laboratory Medicine at Chobanian &amp; Avedisian School of Medicine also supports a Masters in Pathology Laboratory Sciences and a PhD program in pathology that has an enrollment of 27 students and shares facilities and some academic programs with the residency program.
