Program Overview

The BUSM-MUK Infectious Diseases Training aims to strengthen the collaborative and synergistic efforts of Boston University and Makerere University in fighting infectious diseases worldwide. By promoting mentoring relationships, the mission of the program is to develop and improve capacity at MUK in Uganda to conduct basic and translational research.

The program comprises two components:

  • Support of 5 post-doctoral Ugandan trainees from MUK who will come to Boston to obtain a Masters of Arts (MA) degree in Pathology from the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM)
  • Short-term training in Uganda through periodic short courses, lectures, and tutorials (e.g. “Tool-box for Basic Research and Human Experimentation” and “Current Issues in Emerging Infectious Diseases Research”) given by BUSM Faculty
