{"id":6014,"date":"2019-07-03T12:43:53","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T16:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/bumg\/?page_id=6014"},"modified":"2026-03-20T12:56:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T16:56:19","slug":"evi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/bumg\/evi\/","title":{"rendered":"Office of Equity, Vitality and Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bumg\/files\/2025\/10\/2023-AMA-Bronze.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"172\" class=\"wp-image-11023 alignright\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Office of Equity, Vitality and Inclusion (EVI)<\/strong> advances Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University Medical Group (BUMG)\u2019s holistic approach to clinician recruitment, retention, and burnout reduction by applying data, research, and strategic leadership to improve clinician occupational well-being. The Office designs, implements, and evaluates initiatives that strengthen clinician engagement and workforce stability, enabling BMC and BUMG to recruit and retain a thriving clinical workforce.<\/p>\n<p>EVI works in close partnership with Department Chairs, Section Chiefs, BMC\/BUMG leadership, as well as clinician champions, to understand and improve the interactions between clinicians and the health system \u2014 optimizing professional fulfillment and mitigating burnout.\u00a0 A key component of this work is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/bumg\/evi\/clinician-vitality-survey\/\">Clinician Vitality Survey<\/a>, which incorporates validated measures and robust national benchmarks. We leverage these data to identify opportunities, implement system-level solutions, and support departments and sections in setting goals and implementing interventions.<\/p>\n<p>Our goal is for all BUMG faculty to experience occupational well-being, without differences by identity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Our grounding principles: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A thriving clinical workforce is essential for delivering high-quality and safe patient care<\/li>\n<li>Investment in assessment and measurement of well-being is foundational to this work<\/li>\n<li>We use an equity lens when evaluating and implementing initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Clinician occupational well-being should be considered in all strategic decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MISSION | <\/strong>Direct and implement initiatives that enhance clinician well-being, support professional advancement, and cultivate an inclusive culture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VISION | <\/strong>Create and sustain an organizational culture where diversity is valued, equity is practiced, our community&#8217;s diversity is reflected, and everyone feels supported to thrive.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>National Recognition<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/practice-management\/physician-health\/joy-medicine-recognized-organizations-0\">2023 AMA Joy in Medicine Bronze Award<\/a>,<\/strong> recognizing BMC\u2019s dedication to building well-being and reducing physician burnout in their organization.<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/press-center\/press-releases\/ama-recognizes-health-systems-care-caregivers\">2021 AMA Joy in Medicine Gold Award<\/a><\/b>\u00a0 BMC is one of five institutions and the <b>only<\/b> <b>safety net organization <\/b>achieving gold status.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a
