After receiving his PhD in statistical and applied mathematics he spent four years at a research and consulting firm conducting policy evaluations for federal health agencies.<br \/>\nDr. Frakt is now the Director of the Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) at the Boston VA Healthcare System, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He is also a Professor with the Department of Health Law, Policy and Management at Boston University\u2019s School of Public Health. In addition, he is a Senior Research Scientist with the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.<br \/>\nDr. Frakt is Editor-in-Chief of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsr.org\/\"><em>Health Services Research<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and serves on the editorial board of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajmc.com\/publications\/issue?year=2020\"><em>The American Journal of Managed Care<\/em><\/a>. He has also served as a member of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icer.org\/who-we-are\/people\/independent-appraisal-committees\/new-england-cepac\/\">New England Comparative Effectiveness Public Advisory Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>Professor William Dixon<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bostonmcrc\/files\/2022\/06\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"175\" class=\" wp-image-659 alignleft\" \/> <strong>Tuesday, July 12th, 2022 from 9:30 &#8211; 10:30am EST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dixon&#8217;s Presentation Title: TBD<\/p>\n<p>William Dixon, MD qualified from Guy\u2019s and St. Thomas\u2019 Hospitals, London, trained as a rheumatologist in Manchester, UK and has higher degrees from The University of Manchester and McGill University, Montreal. He is a Professor of Digital Epidemiology, Director of the <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfe.manchester.ac.uk\/\">Centre for Epidemiology Versus Arthritis<\/a><\/span> at the University of Manchester and an honorary consultant rheumatologist at Salford Royal Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>His passion is using technology to support clinical care and research to improve patients\u2019 lives. This includes the collection and sharing of research quality data from clinicians, collecting patient-generated data including its integration into electronic health records, and analysis of social media data. Recent digital health studies include the national smartphone study and citizen science experiment <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cloudywithachanceofpain.com\"><em>Cloudy with a Chance of Pain<\/em><\/a><\/span><em>, <\/em>remote monitoring of rheumatoid arthritis (<span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfe.manchester.ac.uk\/research\/projects\/remora\/\"><em>REMORA<\/em><\/a><\/span>) which uniquely integrates patient-generated data into the NHS, and <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuffieldfoundation.org\/project\/powering-robust-population-research-in-msk-disease\"><em>Assembling the Data Jigsaw<\/em><\/a><\/span>, a local data integration pilot to use a range of data sources from clinicians and patients in Salford for addressing clinically important questions about arthritis.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dixon is a Fellow of the <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turing.ac.uk\/\">Alan Turing Institute<\/a><\/span>, is Co-Director of the <span><a href=\"https:\/\/htn.co.uk\/2022\/05\/03\/manchester-melbourne-and-toronto-announce-funding-for-research-and-centre-for-digital-health\/\">International Centre for Translational Digital Health<\/a><\/span>, a partnership between the Universities of Manchester, Toronto and Melbourne, and is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for <span><a href=\"https:\/\/ourfuturehealth.org.uk\/\"><em>Our Future Health<\/em><\/a><\/span><em>, <\/em>an ambitious health study of 5M people in the UK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our speaker series highlights the work of leading clinical researchers in rheumatology and in clinical research methods.
