I am originally from the Bay Area, California, and began my research career at the University of California, Berkeley, in the lab of Dr. Hei Sook Sul. As an undergraduate, I studied the molecular and cellular biology of adipose tissue and completed an honors thesis investigating a guanine nucleotide exchange factor involved in brown adipose tissue differentiation and thermogenesis. After graduating with a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences, I moved to Boston to join the Stem Cell Research team on the Type 1 Diabetes program at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. At Vertex, I researched the biology and metabolism of human embryonic stem cell to pancreatic islet differentiation. <\/p>\n
At Boston University, I am pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology in the laboratory of Dr. Mikel Garcia-Marcos.
