In addition, I employed proteomics, RNA sequencing, and advanced molecular biology approaches to probe the mechanisms through which gastrointestinal coronaviruses caused severe inflammation.

I joined the Saeed lab in September 2022. One of my ongoing projects is to explore the function of SARS-CoV2 ORF9b in virus infected cells. Both host and viral targets of ORF9b were identified by employing proximity-based protein labeling and immunoprecipitation coupled with Mass spectrometry. I am deciphering the mechanism and contribution of ORF9b to pathogenesis by employing molecular biology approaches, based on the targets interacted with ORF9b. This research will provide a mechanistic basis for SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis.

Another project is focus on dissecting the ways in which 2A protease of enteroviruses, such as coxsackieviruses, blunt the interferon response pathway in virus-infected cells. To answer this question, my research is utilizing systems-level strategies, including degradomics and proximity-based protein labeling. These studies are expected to provide unparalleled insights into the enterovirus biology.
