We believe that a multicultural community produces the most innovative science. We appreciate the range of scientific research within the biochemistry umbrella and embrace a broad range of ideas on how best to pursue our research in the interest of human health.<\/p>\n<h3>Our priorities:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Recruitment<\/strong>. Because diversity drives excellence, we are committed to to improving faculty diversity in our department. We ascribe to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/faculty-hiring-checklist\/\">Faculty Hiring Checklis<\/a>t. In addition, our departmental faculty search committees will include a DEI advocate.\u00a0 The committee members will receive training on elimination of bias from faculty searches. and participate in university-wide efforts to improve faculty diversity, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/\">Faculty Development and Diversity Program<\/a>. \u00a0We prioritize diversity and inclusion activities as criteria for faculty hiring and promotion.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retention<\/strong>. We participate in BU Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/facdev-medicine\/all-bumc\/ecfdp\/\">Early Career Faculty Development Program<\/a>. We maintain a faculty mentorship and development program. We encourage students to participate in the activities of the Graduate Medical Sciences Community Catalyst Center (https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/gms\/students\/c3center\/).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communications<\/strong>. We interface with office of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/about\/diversity\/\">Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion<\/a> to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all department members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Measurements<\/strong>. We participate in BU efforts to track and report metrics on diversity and utilize research tools to measure and report diversity demographics. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/belonging-culture-survey\/\">These efforts include the BU Belonging and Culture Survey<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We take professional conduct seriously.<br \/>\n<\/strong>Incidents of racism, sexism and other unprofessional conduct can be reported to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:BUSMDean@bu.edu\">BUSMDean@bu.edu<\/a>, to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ombuds\/\">BU Ombuds<\/a>, or to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.ethicspoint.com\/domain\/media\/en\/gui\/8779\/index.html\">EthicsPoin<\/a>t.
