Prior to this transition, he spent 19 years to Children’s National
Hospital in Washington, DC, where he served as a Principal Investigator at the Center for Neuroscience
Research and Director of the Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory, and held the Foglia-Hills Chair for
Pediatric Cardiac Research.
Dr. Ishibashi earned his medical degree from Gunma University School of Medicine in Japan in 1998. He
completed clinical training in Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Heart
Institute of Japan, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, obtaining certifications from both the Japanese Board of
Surgery and the Japanese Board of Cardiovascular Surgery. He further advanced his research training through
a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Neuroscience Research at Children’s National Hospital.
His research focuses on understanding the impact of congenital heart disease (CHD) and subsequent cardiac
surgery on brain development. As Principal Investigator on multiple NIH- and DoD-funded grants, Dr. Ishibashi
utilizes advanced neuroscience techniques and clinically relevant animal models to study neurodevelopment.
He is particularly recognized for pioneering work on the relationship between the subventricular zone and
cortical growth in CHD, earning distinction in both the cardiovascular and neuroscience fields.
Dr. Ishibashi's ultimate goal as a clinician-scientist is to improve treatment strategies and develop novel
therapeutics to mitigate neurodevelopmental impairments in children with CHD. His translational research
program has achieved key milestones, including the development of the NIH-funded Phase 1 MeDCaP clinical
trial at Children’s National Hospital. This trial, which he led as Principal Investigator, demonstrated the safety
and feasibility of a cell-based therapeutic approach.

Lab Site

RESEARCH:

Developmental brain injury, Neurodevelopment, Congenital heart disease

OFFICE:

EMAIL:

nishibas@bu.edu

Faculty

article.post-12287 {
   display: none;
}

/* ----------------Blocks---------------- */

.block {
    background-color: #ffffff;
    padding: 15px;
    margin: auto;
    height: 350px;
    width: 300px;
    border-radius: 3px;
    align-items: center;
    z-index: 2;
    box-shadow: -50px 0 100px -50px #808080, 50px 0 100px -50px #808080;
}

.block-pad {
    margin-top: 20px;
    margin-bottom: 20px;
}

@media only screen and (min-width: 760px) {
.block {
  width: 300px;
             height: 350px;
}
}

.block h1 {
    padding-bottom: 5px;
    font-size: 24px;
    text-align: center;
}

/* ----------------Profile---------------- */

.side-info {
    background-color: #ffffff;
}

.universal-pad {
    margin: 25px;
    margin-left: 10vw;
    margin-right: 10vw;
}

.firstinfo{
  display: flex;
  justify-content: center;
  align-items: center;
}

.content1 {
  position: relative;
  animation: animatop 0.9s cubic-bezier(0.425, 1.14, 0.47, 1.125) forwards;
  margin-left: 12vw;
  margin-top: 10px;
  margin-bottom: 10px;
}

.card {
  width: 70vw;
  min-height: 100px;
  padding: 20px;
  border-radius: 3px;
  background-color: white;
  box-shadow: 0px 10px 20px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2);
  position: relative;
  overflow: hidden;
}
.card:after {

}

.firstinfo {
  flex-direction: row;
  z-index: 2;
  position: relative;
}
.firstinfo img {
  display: none;
}
.firstinfo .profileinfo {
  padding: 0px 20px;
}
.firstinfo .profileinfo h1 {
  font-size: 35px;
}
.firstinfo .profileinfo h3 {
  font-size: 20px;
  color: #262262;
  font-style: italic;
}
.firstinfo .profileinfo p.bio {
  padding: 10px 0px;
  color: #5A5A5A;
  line-height: 1.2;
  font-style: initial;
}

@keyframes animatop {
  0% {
    opacity: 0;
    bottom: -500px;
  }
  100% {
    opacity: 1;
    bottom: 0px;
  }
}
@keyframes animainfos {
  0% {
    bottom: 10px;
  }
  100% {
    bottom: -42px;
  }
}
@keyframes rotatemagic {
  0% {
    opacity: 0;
    transform: rotate(0deg);
    top: -24px;
    left: -253px;
  }
  100% {
    transform: rotate(-30deg);
    top: -24px;
    left: -78px;
  }
}

@media only screen and (min-width: 900px) {
.card:after {
  content: "";
  display: block;
  width: 190px;
  height: 300px;
  background: #262262;
  position: absolute;
  animation: rotatemagic 0.75s cubic-bezier(0.425, 1.04, 0.47, 1.105) 1s both;
}

.firstinfo img {
  border-radius: 50%;
  width: 120px;
  height: 120px;
display: block;
}

}
/* ----------------Animated Button---------------- */

.gradient-btn {
  /* Fallback: Set a background color. */
  background-color: #262262;

  /* Create the gradient. */
  background-image: linear-gradient(
    45deg,
    #ffffff 50%,
    #262262 50%
  );

  /* Set the background size and repeat properties. */
  background-size: 270%;
  background-repeat: repeat;
  background-position: top right;

  /* Use the text as a mask for the background. */
  /* This will show the gradient as a text color rather than element bg. */
  -webkit-background-clip: text;
  -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent;
