Transforming Pediatric Care
Our Research
Many children with congenital heart disease (CHD) – especially those with the most complex conditions -experience behavioral challenges and neurodevelopmental delays, even after successful surgical correction.
Our research focuses on understanding how CHD and subsequent cardiac surgery impact the rapidly developing brain during the fetal, neonatal, and infant stages. We use cutting-edge neuroscience techniques in a variety of clinically relevant experimental models to study mechanisms of brain injury and immaturity.
The long-term goal of our research program is to optimize treatment strategies and develop novel therapies that reduce neurodevelopmental impairment in children living with CHD.
