Christina Dimovasili, PhD
Postdoc

Dr Dimovasili received her B.S. in Biology from National and Kapodistrian University Of Athens, Greece, her M.Sc. in Medical Genetics from University of Glasgow, Scotland and her PhD from the Medical School of University Of Crete, Greece. She worked as a postdoc researcher at Mount Sinai, NY where she studied the biochemical mechanisms of Familial Alzheimer Disease mutations in murine cortical neurons.
Dr. Dimovasili joined the department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in January 2020 as a Research Scientist. Her current research is focused on elucidating the cellular mechanisms of aging-associated myelin pathology, using a non-human primate model of normal aging. She is investigating alterations that occur in oligodendrocytes and their precursor cells, which are responsible for myelination. As these cells become less effective in maintaining myelin homeostasis, uncovering pathways involved in this process can lead to therapeutic interventions to improve remyelination in the aged brain and beyond.
