Image result for guaranteed ride home photosGRH is designed to rescue commuters who are worried about how they’ll get home when an emergency arises. Many people let legitimate fears of being stranded at the office or being unable to respond to a family emergency, keep them from taking advantage of sustainable commuting programs. With the GRH program you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride on transit, in a carpool, or bicycling to work knowing that if plans should unexpectedly change. You are covered – guaranteed. Knowing there’s a guaranteed ride home allows one to use commuting options like transit and carpools with peace of mind and confidence. 

Who Is Eligible?

To be eligible for the GRH program you must use one of the following alternative commute modes at least twice a week, and you must use an alternate commute mode on the day you request a ride home. Alternate commute modes are:

  • Ridesharing (carpools & Vanpools)
  • MBTA public transit (bus, subway & commuter rail)
  • Bicycling

Also, you must be currently enrolled in one of TranSComm green programs. Such as carpooling, bike cage access, MBTA payroll deduction, etc.

How does the program work?

  • Please register below.
  • Once you register, we will email you with the confirmation and voucher info.
  • When an emergency arises, call Metro Cab directly at 617-782-5500; TranSComm will cover up to $65 of the cab ride, up to 6 GRH rides per calendar year. (Car rental if the cab ride will cost more than $65)
  • Use of the program is permitted when there is no public transit within 30 minutes of when you need to leave or if you need to reach your destination sooner than the time it takes on transit.


  • Unscheduled over time
  • Emergency for yourself or someone you care for and you need to travel home, hospital, etc.
  • Illness for yourself or someone you care for and you need to travel home, hospital, etc.
  • For cyclists, your bike is damaged on you way to work and public transit is not available within 30 minutes of when you need to travel home, hospital, etc.


  • Travel from home to work
  • Inclement weather or city/state/national emergencies
  • MBTA service failure
  • For a ride home following out of work time celebrations
  • Scheduled meetings, scheduled overtime, or events taking place after normal business hours
  • Building Evacuations
