Hiran Fernando, MBBS, FRCS, named Chief of Thoracic Surgery
Hiran Fernando, MBBS, FRCS, has been named Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). Fernando has served as the Director of BMC’s Center for Minimally Invasive Esophageal Surgery. He assumed his new role Aug. 6. Fernando obtained his medical degree at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London. He then trained in general surgery in the University of California system before training in thoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.Fernando succeeds Benedict Daly, MD, a strong leader of Cardiothoracic Surgery nationally, and at BMC and BUSM over the past decade.
