Biomedical Engineering: Focused on Stem Cell Delivery
The Biomedical Engineering component of the Center for Regenerative Medicine is focused on solving one of the greatest challenges limiting stem cell-based therapies: the effective and safe delivery of stem cells into the body. Established investigators in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Boston University are developing novel scaffolds and biocompatible biocapsules to facilitate retention, engraftment, and containment of stem cells and their progeny after transplantation into injured tissues in vivo. Furthermore, sophisticated physiologic and morphometric readouts have been developed by our Biomedical Engineers to better allow precise measurements of any healing that may result in vivo after delivery of cells in animal models of disease.
