*For Charles River Campus ResearchersResearchers from the Charles River Campus Guidelines for In vivo Imaging Facility Use

SOP example of typical phrasing: “Animals will be imaged using an In vivo Imaging System (IVIS) Spectrum (Caliper Life Sciences, Hopkinton, MA, USA). Anesthesia is administered in an induction chamber with 2.5% isoflurane in 100% oxygen at a flow rate of 1.5 L/min and maintained while the animal is in the IVIS imaging device with a 2.5% mixture at 0.25 L/min administered via nose cones. The chamber within the imaging device is heated to maintain appropriate animal body temperature during the imaging process which can last between 5 to 45 minutes. Animals will be imaged at such and such frequency (1,2,3x daily/weekly). See attached standard operating procedures (SOP) for more details.”

*The IVIS is available 24/7 for user access including weekends. However, keep in mind that:

a) troubleshooting assistance and maintenance will not be available after 5 or on weekends/holidays
b) it is the user’s responsibility to pay for any damage he/she may have caused to the machine/room
while imaging (this excludes normal wear and tear)
c) if the machine is not functioning properly or other issues arise, it is the user’s responsibility to
contact Core Director, Louis Gerstenfeld  via e-mail lgersten@bu.edu who will then shut down access  to the room until the weekday schedule resumes.
