Welcome to the Mechanical Ventilation (MV) webpage! Its purpose is to provide easy access to some of the relevant literature pertaining to MV in order to promote patient care and education in our ICU’s. This webpage should not be viewed as a definitive evidence-based resource but, rather, a starting point when a question regarding MV arises. Hopefully, with a click or two of the mouse respiratory therapists, residents, fellows and attendings will find it easier to answer these questions. Note, the content is limited specifically to MV; overlapping topics such as sedation, VAP and pharmacologic therapies for ARDS are not included.
References are organized into the 7 general categories below. Each reference is linked to a URL for the corresponding PubMed abstract as of 7/16/07. Copyright laws prohibit having the actual articles on the webpage; thus, access to the Full Text/PDF will depend on the user’s subscription status. Fortunately, on the BMC campus access to these journals is free and only an additional click away. Off-campus, older articles for some journals may be available without charge. Otherwise, the options are to: (a) access Medline through the BUMC Alumni Medical Library (http://med-libwww.bu.edu/; user name and password required) or (b) use one’s personal subscription to a given journal.
