Kahn Master of Public Health Scholarship

The Nasir Khan Public Health Scholarship is generously donated to support resident education in public mental health by the late Nasir Khan MD, the former CEO of Bournewood Hospital.

Residents may apply for the Nasir Khan Public Health Scholarship to fund a Master of Public at Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPHP) located on the Medical Campus. Residents may apply in the second year of training for matriculation to the BUSPH at the start of the third year of training. Completion of the Master degree takes place with the research component of your choosing with mentor ship within the department of psychiatry. This fourth year research elective meets the research requirements for the Master degree.

Elvin Hernandez MD, MPH, a past recipient of this scholarship, was awarded the APA/ SAMSHA fellowship in Addictions. Dr. Hernandez translated his work at Bedford VA with the guidance of John Renner, MD (Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Director) to train psychiatrists in Puerto Rico to meet all the FDA requirements for bupenoprphine treatment of opioid addictions.
