Hope and Healing: Mental Health and the Black Church

This lecture will begin by discussing how this topic is important in relation to combating health inequities that affect African American communities with a lens of antiracism. We will review the historic and current importance of the Black church to the Black community. Regarding individual clinical experiences, we will discuss how to consider a patient’s religion/spirituality in formulation and treatment planning for patients. Regarding public mental health intervention, we will discuss methods to use when partnering with Black churches to address the mental health needs of Black communities.
