Pro-active Psychiatry: The Future of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry

There is substantial evidence that demonstrate the benefits in terms of cost-effectiveness and improvement in medical outcomes for integrating behavioral health services in medical settings. Recent trends in health care reimbursement models, including formation of accountable care organizations and use of alternative payment mechanisms, have contributed in the growth of behavioral health integration in the ambulatory setting. However, not enough attention has been given to the general medical hospital. I will be reviewing the evidence base around Pro-active Consultation Liaison Psychiatry models. I will also prove guidance on the typical barriers and approaches in developing your own around Pro-active Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service.
