Exercise Study for People with Parkinson’s Disease
You are invited to join a research study in which you will participate in a group exercise program consisting of balance, strengthening and walking exercises. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to participate in the exercise program either immediately following enrollment (early group) or 3 months after enrollment (later group). A physical therapist with expertise in Parkinson’s disease will lead all the exercise sessions.
You may qualify to participate in this study if you:
• have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
• have lost your balance or fallen at least once in the last 3 months
• can walk at least 5 minutes continuously without physical assistance or use of a cane or walker
• can attend an exercise program at Sargent College, Boston University twice per week for 3 months
