Annual APDA MA Walkathon coming up June 9th in Canton

The 27th Annual APDA Massachusetts Parkinson Walkathon will begin on Sunday, June 9th at 12:00 noon at Reebok International Headquarters in Canton, MA. For details, visit the Walkathon homepage to join the walk, create a team, or make a contribution. Last year’s Walkathon raised over $135,000 for Parkinson’s research.

Parkinson’s Disease Family Caregiver Evening taking place May 23rd in Braintree

The Parkinson’s Disease Family Caregiver Evening will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital. Faculty from Boston University, Boston Medical Center, and other organizations will provide current information and resources to assist in providing care to family members or friends.

Good Start Program in Parkinson’s Disease to take place March 27th and April 3rd at Sargent College

The Good Start Program is a two part series presented by a team of Parkinson’s disease specialists from Boston University and Boston University Medical Center. This program is designed for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the last two years and their families. Participants will receive up-to-date information on diagnosis, treatment, and resources.

27th Huntington’s Disease Society of America Annual Convention

Movement Disorder Center Social Worker Allyson Gormley, LICSW was selected by the Huntington’s Disease Society of American to receive a grant. This was provided by Lundbeck to attend the HDSA Professional Training Day specifically designed for social workers. The Professional Training Day was one part of the HDSA Annual Convention. Allyson met with other social workers from around the country. The day provided opportunity to address the specific support needs of individuals and families living with Huntington’s disease. Here at Boston University Medical Campus/Boston Medical Center, Allyson coordinates the Huntington’s Disease Clinic. Dr. Samuel Frank, the Huntington’s Disease Clinic Medical Director, also attended this convention and presented Clinical Trials Diplomat Training.

Movement Disorder Specialist Dr. Anna Hohler works on program addressing military medical issues

Anna Hohler groupAnna Hohler, MD represented Boston University Medical School in a program to help educate medical students about military medical issues including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic brain injury. First Lady Michelle Obama participated in this important effort. Dr. Hohler was a Major in the US Army and completed her internship and residency during this time.
