If I only borrowed from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan Program, am I required to attend an in-person session?

- No, however, it is a federal mandate that you have Exit Counseling. You can complete your requirement at the Direct Loan Servicing website or submit a Direct Loan Student Contact Information and Rights and Responsibilities Summary Checklist to our office without scheduling a session. You can obtain the document on our website at www.bumc.bu.edu/osfs/exitcounseling. Once there, click on the Rights and Responsibilities links in the text. However, you are welcome to attend a session if you would like personal counseling.

Why is Exit Counseling mandatory?

- The federal government requires students to have Exit Counseling to ensure they are aware of their rights and responsibilities as a borrower.

For example:

• Deferment

• Repayment

• Consolidation

• Other debt management topics.

Please note a diploma hold WILL be placed on your account until the Exit Counseling requirement has been satisfied.

OSFS will host Exit Counseling Sessions for groups of 10 on the following dates:
