Announcement – Winter 2009 Funds for Living Expenses
|
OBTAINING LIVING EXPENSE FUNDS Dear Public Health Students, We hope the following information will save you time and a trip to Student Financial Services (SFS) during your busy schedule. Some or all of your financial aid proceeds for the winter 2009 semester will become available during your first week of classes in January. SFS is processing requests to receive funds for living expenses under the following conditions: A) If you submitted a Boston University Application for Financial Assistance and completed the Credit Advance (CA) section and HAVE A PENDING CREDIT BALANCE in your student account, SFS will process the CA, and arrange for a check to be mailed to you within five business days of your semester start date. With that in mind, you will not need to do anything further.
B) If you have an actual, not pending, credit on your student account after signing all promissory notes and private loan checks and completed the Credit Release (CR) section on the application, SFS will process the CR for that balance in addition to your CA. Again, you will not need to do anything else.
C) If you submitted a Boston University Application for Financial Assistance but did not complete the CA or CR sections, or if you applied for credit-based and/or Direct or Graduate PLUS Loan(s) and have a pending credit balance in your account, you may obtain a CA and/or CR on our website through the following link:
If you have not already done so, you may mail either form or bring them to us at SFS, 72 East Concord Street, A303, Boston, MA 02118-2526. Please note that we DO NOT accept faxes. The CA is an interest-free short-term Advance that is charged to your student account. You are eligible for an Advance only if you are officially registered and you have sufficient loans approved for disbursement to repay the Advance. STUDENT ACCOUNT STATUS As a friendly reminder, you can view the status of your student account on the Student Link at www.bu.edu/studentlink. LANDLORD LETTER If your rent is due and you did not budget to pay it from your aid proceeds, SFS can issue a letter which you can then present to your landlord documenting the amount of your anticipated refund and the date when these funds will be available to you. To request a ‘landlord letter’, please call SFS at (617) 638-5130 or toll-free, 877-776-6243. You may visit our office in the School of Medicine, Room A401 during our office hours (Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and submit your request in person. You may also e-mail your request from your BU email account to osfs-sph@bu.edu. We will need to know the name of your landlord and the address to which you would like the letter sent. It will take one to three business days to process your request depending on the volume. Cordially, Student Financial Services POSTED DECEMBER 4, 2008 |
