School of Public Health Introduction – Student Financial Services

Boston University School of Public Health administers a limited institutional student aid program, and provides a full range of other student assistance services. Depending upon your program, registration status and ability to pay, you may qualify for limited institutional assistance. If you do not, you may still qualify for federal or other assistance to meet the costs of education. It is important to remember that the burden of paying for your education remains with you.
It is equally important to emphasize that you must allocate sufficient time to take care of your student financial affairs as well as to ensure that your credit rating is adequate to qualify you for those programs that require credit checks. You must also manage your financial resources prudently. Take an active consumer approach toward debt–avoid it if you can; limit it as much as you can. Remember that, based on the job market and your potential earning power, there may be a threshold beyond which debt is not manageable and is hence unreasonable. There are transitions that occur over time and thus require that you recalculate your debt threshold at different points in time. In addition to helping you meet your student assistance needs, the Office of Student Financial Services will assist you in analyzing your debt threshold relative to your future professional plans.
In conjunction with the School of Public Health, the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) has appointed Associate Director Karen Van Dyne to work specifically with SPH students. Of course other members of the office staff are willing to be of assistance as well. Staff members an be reached at (617) 638-5130, toll-free (877) 776-6243, or by email osfs-sph@bu.edu should the need arise. We hope these services and our ongoing support will enhance your School of Public Health experience.
