Student Health Insurance

Massachusetts law requires all students who are enrolled in at least 75 percent of the full-time curriculum (9 credits) to carry medical insurance.

All students will be charged for Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) at the beginning of each academic year on your student account. If you are already covered by your parents’ or your spouse’s health insurance plans, you could be eligible to waive the SHIP through the MyBU Student Portal. All waivers are reviewed by Student Health Services.

Students who are not covered by a third party’s health insurance will need to utilize SHIP coverage.

If you plan on keeping the SHIP, and you are looking to borrow credit-based loans to pay for the SHIP, please email your SFS college representative to indicate that you plan to keep the SHIP so that cost can be included in your Cost of Attendance for the academic period.

Low-cost options for qualifying students can be obtained through the MassHealth Health Connector. Please visit the Health Connector website for more information about enrollment data, and application details.
