Maine Medical Education Foundation
The Maine Medical Education Foundation makes loans available to Maine residents enrolled in or accepted to an approved medical school. Loan funds are interest-free until graduation. Interest on the loan will then accrue at 1% for the first year after graduation and increase to 3% the second year and to 5% the third year and each thereafter. Repayment will begin no later than five years following graduation from medical school and the repayment period shall not exceed beyond 10 years from the date of graduation.

MARYLAND
| Baltimore City Medical Society Foundation – Permanent residents of Baltimore City who demonstrate financial need and who display potential for success in the pursuit of a medical degree may apply. Each applicant must have a letter of recommendation from a member of the Baltimore City Medical Society. There are no payback provisions, but recipients are encouraged to return to Baltimore City to practice medicine. Deadline: June 1. Berkshire District Medical Society
The Berkshire District Medical Society, a chapter of the Massachusetts Medical Society offers a revolving scholarship interest-free loan to medical students who reside in Berkshire County and who are attending medical and osteopathic medicine schools in the United States and Canada. The award, up to a maximum of $5,000, is renewable annually for the four years or remaining years of medical school at the discretion of the scholarship committee. In addition to the application, a 2”x2” photo, a statement of 500 words or less, four references, and a transcript of the college academic record will be required.

Boston Chapter of Links, Incorporated – (a national organization of women) makes average awards of $1,000 to students who meet these requirements: the applicant must be a Black graduate degree candidate in need of financial assistance, must be pursuing a course of study at an accredited college or university, and must be a legal resident of the Greater Boston Area (registered voter) or should have grown up in the area and attended Boston Schools. Application deadline is April 17; contact OSFS.

The Charles River District Medical Society Scholarship Program
The Charles River District Medical Society Scholarship Program is available to any medical school student enrolled at an approved U.S. institution who is a legal resident of one of the five towns comprising the district: Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley, and Weston.
Applications must be received before April 1st of the student’s freshman year. The scholarship is awarded for the sophomore year and is renewable for the junior year upon application and at the discretion of the Committee. Essex South District Medical Society
The Essex South District Medical Society awards scholarships to students from an Essex South city or town. Qualifications include residency in an Essex South community for at least 5 years prior to college, with a desire to return and practice in the area, a curriculum vitae, a statement of academic standing, a letter of recommendation from a district society member if possible, and a letter of personal goals.

Franklin District Medical Society – One grant of $1,000 is awarded annually based on financial need and merit. One or both parents of the applicant must live in Franklin County and the applicant must have been admitted to or be attending medical school. Deadline: May 1. | General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts Memorial Education Fund – Fellowships of at least $2,000 each are offered for graduate study in medicine to women maintaining residence in Massachusetts for at least five years. Hampshire District Medical Society
The Hampshire District Medical Society will award $2,000 grants to medical students for the 2006-2007 academic year. Eligibility criteria include: residency in Hampshire county for at least 5 consecutive years, a letter of matriculation from the medical school the individual is attending, full-time status in the third or fourth year of medical school, and a copy of a letter of recommendation from the undergraduate school to medical school.

Middlesex Central District
The Middlesex Central District of the Massachusetts Medical Society Scholarship awards a $2,000 scholarship annually to a first-year student who attends any of the four Massachusetts medical schools. The student’s primary residence must be in Acton, S. Acton, W. Acton, Bedford, Boxboro, Carlisle, Concord, W. Concord, Lincoln, S. Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, or Stow. Students may receive the scholarship for more than one year at the discretion of the financial aid office. Naurison Scholarship Fund – Small scholarships based on financial need are made available to residents of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire Counties (and residents of Enfield and Suffield, CT) who are enrolled in an accredited medical, dental, or public health school. | Norfolk South District Medical Society Scholarship -Tuition assistance is offered to Massachusetts residents who are entering medical school. Preference will be given to students from Quincy, Braintree, Hingham, Holbrook, Cohasset, Scituate, Rockland, Hanover, Norwell, Pembroke, and Marshfield. | Rotary Club of Boston Student Aid Program – The program makes available loans of up to $5,000 to students in their last two years of graduate education. Students must be under thirty years of age and residents of Massachusetts; length of residence is taken into consideration. A 48-month payback begins six months after completing school or upon termination of full-time status; interest is 5% compounded annually. Worcester District Medical Society
The Worcester District Medical Society is now accepting applications for their 2008 scholarship program. Scholarships will be awarded to second, third and fourth year medical students who are in financial need and are legal residents of Central Massachusetts.

| Kent Medical Foundation – Residents of Kent and bordering counties who have successfully completed their first year of medical school can apply for loans that are interest free until completion of the first year of residency. MISSOURI
| State Medical Foundation Student Loan Program – Missouri residents who are members of the Missouri State Medical Association, are registered full-time at an accredited U.S. medical school, and have completed one year may apply. Loans of $4,000 maximum annually ($8,000 cumulative) are based on financial need, academic achievement, and references. Interest is 4% from date of the loan until completion of medical school and 10% annually during residency. Accrued interest on the unpaid principal is due monthly during residency. | The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis – Qualified high school graduates who are residents of St. Louis or St. Louis County who demonstrate financial need can apply for loans of up to $3,000 annually ($15,000 cumulative). Loans are renewable on evidence of satisfactory work and continued need. Loans are interest-free and the principal is to be repaid within five years after leaving school. Deadline: April 15.
