DELAWARE

Post Secondary Scholarship Fund – Delaware residents enrolled full-time at an approved school and taking a major not offered in Delaware schools may apply for a $1,000 grant based on financial need. Delaware Academy of Medicine – Low interest loans, ranging from $4,000 to $8,000, are available to applicants studying medicine. Eligible candidates must have resided in Delaware for at least one year prior to a May 15th deadline, be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents, and have at least one year of residency in the state of Delware. FLORIDA

The Thomas Brown McClelland Trust – The Rotary Club of Miami administers the trust to make financial aid available to medical students who are permanent legal residents of Dade County for at least five years prior to application for the scholarship. Students must be able to meet with a selection committee for an interview at a mutually agreeable date in Miami. Deadline: February 1. The Joanna F. Reed Medical Scholarship Trust provides need based awards to medical students at recognized private medical schools who are legal residents of Alabama and northwest Florida. Scholarship funds will be awarded on the basis of the applicants’ prior academic performance, recommendations from instructors, financial need, and the Selection Committee’s evaluation of the applicants’ motivation, character, ability and promise as a practicing physician.

Applications, available in the Office of Student Financial Services, must be received by the Selection Committee no later than May 15.

GEORGIA

State Medical Education Board of Georgia Scholarship Program – Bona fide residents of Georgia who have been accepted by or enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical college can apply for a need-based, service-connected scholarship of up to $20,000 per year or a total of $36,000 to any student. Recipients agree to repay scholarships by practicing in Georgia communities approved by the State Medical Education Board. One-fifth of the scholarship and interest is credited for each year of service in the approved communities. Awards are based on the applicant’s financial need and willingness to undertake a service obligation. Deadline: May 1. ILLINOIS

Academic Scholarship Program – Jewish men and women who are legally domiciled in the metropolitan Chicago area and in need of financial assistance for full-time academic graduate programs in the helping professions and who are identified as having promise for significant contributions in their chosen careers may apply. Applicants must be available for a personal interview in Chicago. Deadline: March 1. Applications are available December 1. The Edward A. Mellinger Educational Foundation – Loans and scholarships are made available for deserving students who reside in western Illinois or eastern Iowa and who need financial assistance to attend accredited schools within the U.S. Scholarships are renewable annually for the balance of the additional years of a four-year program or until a recipient completes a graduate program. Medical Distribution Loan Fund – Students in approved medical colleges may apply for loans not to exceed $5,000 per year. Peter V. Westhaysen Medical Education Trust Scholarships and Loans – Available to U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who are enrolled full time in a medical or nursing field course of study. Preference will be given to residents of Lake County. Students must show financial need and demonstrate scholastic ability. Contact: Peter V.
