ALABAMA

The Joanna F. Reed Medical Scholarship The Joanna F. Reed Medical Scholarship Trust provides need based awards to medical students at recognized private medical schools who are legal residents of Alabama and northwest Florida. Scholarship funds will be awarded on the basis of the applicants’ prior academic performance, recommendations from instructors, financial need, and the Selection Committee’s evaluation of the applicants’ motivation, character, ability and promise as a practicing physician.Applications, available in the Office of Student Financial Services, must be received by the Selection Committee no later than May 15.

ALASKA

Student Loan Program – Residents of Alaska who are enrolled full-time in approved schools may apply for loans of $6,500 at 8% interest. Deadline: May. Arthur N. Wilson, MD, Scholarship – Awarded by the American Medical Association Education and Research Foundation (AMA-ERF) to medical students who have attended high school in Southeast Alaska. CALIFORNIA

Charles R. Drew Loan Fund, Inc. – Loans are made available to qualified third and fourth year minority medical students from the state of California who are attending accredited medical schools in the United States. Students who can provide a co-signer are eligible to borrow up to $2,500 a year each year. Contact: Charles R. Drew Loan Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 431427, Los Angeles, CA 91406.
William E. Dochterman Medical Student Scholarship – Students who have graduated from a high school located in Sacramento or El Dorado counties and who are now enrolled at an accredited American medical school may apply. Selection is made on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. Application deadline: June 15. Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara – Scholarships are available to applicants who originally graduated from a high school or are an adult student who resided in Santa Barbara, CA for at least the last three years as a non-student. Applicants must be full-time medical or graduate students in the 2008-2009 academic year. Areas of study include medicine, dentistry, and a variety of Master’s and PhD programs. COLORADO

Sachs Foundation ScholarshipBlack residents of Colorado who are enrolled full-time in approved medical schools can apply for an average grant of $5,000 per year. The scholarships, which are renewable, are based on financial need. Applications are available January 1-March 1. Contact: Sachs Foundation, 90 S. CONNECTICUT

Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians Endowment Loan Fund – All medical students who have completed at least one year of medical school are eligible to apply. Preference is given to residents of Connecticut. Recipients who establish family practices are not required to repay the loan. Hartford County Medical Foundation Medical Memorial Scholarships – Scholarships of up to $2,000 are awarded to residents of Hartford County who prove financial need and are enrolled in a medically related field of study at an accredited school. Wellsford and Mildred Clark Medical Memorial Scholarship – The scholarship is available to students who have been residents of Connecticut for at least five years and who will be entering their fourth year at a medical school accredited by the AMA and/or the World Health Organization. Selection will be based on academic excellence, extracurricular interests, community service, career plans, financial need, and letters of recommendation. Deadline: April 30. Windham County Medical Association Scholarships The Windham County Medical Association (WCMA) is pleased to announce the availability of grants for students enrolled in a U.S. or Canadian medical school who reside in Windham County, Connecticut. Applicants will be required to validate their residency in Windham County prior to or while attending medical school.Applications, available in the Office of Student Financial Services, must be returned to the Windham County Medical Association, One Regency Drive, P.O.
