Karen Latt E. Memorial Scholarship

The Karen E. Latt Memorial Scholarship is for incoming female medical students, in honor of the late Karen Latt. Applicants must show need and academic excellence. Two references will be required, as well a description of extra ciricular activites and interests. The amount of the award shall be flexible and dependent upon available funds. Martin Luther King, Jr., Fellowship

Fellowships are available to Black Americans entering a full-time degree program in any graduate or professional school of Boston University. Awards provide a scholarship for tuition (graduate) and fees and a stipend. The fellowship is renewable for up to two years. Deadline: March 1. Life and Health Insurance Medical Research Fund/Medical Scientist Scholarship

Frank and Florence Marino Scholarship

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is accepting applications for its annual Frank and Florence Marino Scholarship program. At least one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who attended at least eight years (K through 12) and also graduated from a Connecticut public and/or parochial school. Eligible applicants must be accepted to or currently attending, in good standing, an A.M.A. accredited medical school in the United States.

Medical Students’ Aid Society, Inc., of the Phi Lambda Kappa Medical Fraternity Tuition Loan Program

Medical students who have completed the first year of study at an approved medical school can apply for loans of $2,000 per year for three years. Loans must be used only for tuition. The Michael E. DeBakey Medical Student Poetry Award

Baylor College of Medicine is accepting submission for its annual Michael E. DeBakey Medical Student Poetry award competition with prizes ranging from $250 to $1,000. This competition honors Dr. DeBakey, a pioneering surgeon, scientist and educator who has advanced the cause of medicine throughout the world. The competition is open to any student of an accredited American medical school pursing an M.D. degree. Poems may be of any general or specific theme but are limited to one poem per student. All winning poems will become property of the Michael E. DeBakey Medical Student Poetry Award program. The first-prize poem will be submitted for consideration for publication in a primary medical publication. Submission should be postmarked no later than December 31 Winners will be announced July 1. New England Hellenic Medical and Dental Society

The New England Hellenic Medical and Dental Society (NEHMDS) awards a scholarship to a student member of MEHMDS of Hellenic descent based on academic performance and/or need. National Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Undergraduate and graduate students of Hispanic origin who are citizens of the U.S. can apply for scholarships of $500-$1,000 a year which are renewable. The awards are based on academic achievement, personal strengths, leadership, and financial need. Applications are available April 1-June 15. National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Programs

We would like to share with you some general information regarding the National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Programs (NIH-LRP). These intramural and extramural programs offer repayment up to $35,000 per year of educational loan debt for health professionals pursuing careers in clinical, pediatric, contraception and infertility or health disparities research.

U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents who are qualified health professionals and have educational loan debt equal to or greater than 20% of their base salary are invited to apply. Applicants must agree to devote a minimum of 20 hours per week to research for two years and must work on research projects supported by non-profit or government funds. Applicants must also meet additional eligibility criteria specific to their program of interest.

National Medical Fellowships, Inc. Scholarship Program

African-Americans, mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican-Americans and Native Americans who are U.S. citizens or have filed a declaration of intent to become a citizen and will be first or second-year candidates for the M.D. or D.O. degree in accredited U.S. medical schools are eligible to apply. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000 and are based on financial need. There are a limited number of special merit awards available for outstanding juniors and seniors nominated by medical schools. Deadline: August 31. Navajo Scholarship Financial Assistance Program

Legally enrolled members of the Navajo Tribe with one-quarter for more Indian blood who are enrolled full-time at an accredited institution are eligible for scholarships of up to $7,000 per academic year. Awards are based on financial need as well as a willingness to return to Navajo Nation to practice medicine. Deadline: June 30 for fall semester; November 30 for spring semester. Northeast National Association of Minority Medical Educators, Inc. (NNAMME) Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a second-year underrepresented health professional student who is either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and based on financial need, community service, and academic achievement. The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provides a two year $72,000 graduate scholarship for continuing generations of New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The Program was established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their families.

Presbyterian Center U.S. Student Loan Fund

Members of the Presbyterian Church who are U.S. citizens and enrolled in accredited colleges can borrow $1,500 per year (maximum total of $6,000) at 7% interest. Pisacano Scholars Leadership Foundation

The Pisacano Scholars Leadership Foundation is accepting applications for the 2010 Pisacano Scholars Leadership Program. This program provides educational programs, leadership training, and funding for fourth-year medical students for a four-year period. Students who have made a commitment to Family Medicine and who enter their fourth year in the fall of 2010 are eligible to apply. The maximum scholarship award is $28,000.

Albert Strickler Memorial Fund

The Albert Strickler Memorial Fund provides interest free loans up to $1,000 to medical students, preferably of Jewish faith. Applicants should demonstrate financial need and must also be enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical or osteopathic school. First year students are encouraged to apply. It is a requirement of the fund that loan repayments begin within five years after graduation.

Laszlo N. Tauber Family Foundation

We are delighted to advise you of the Laszlo N. Tauber Family Foundation Scholarship, and to invite applications from students who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.

Dr. Tauber established this endowment in memory of his beloved parents, uncle, brother and other victims of the Holocaust. The endowment provides scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Medicine with a preference for students who are “descendants of World War II American veterans who fought to liberate [us] from Nazi terror…”.

To be considered for a Laszlo N. Tauber Family scholarship, you must be in your fourth year of medical school and must submit an essay discussing your veteran forebear, where they lived, where they fought, what that veteran would think about you becoming a physician, as well as why you should receive funding from this scholarship. You must also submit supporting documentation such as discharge papers or newspaper articles. Please note that your application will not be considered without verifiable documentation. You must be able to show how you are related to the veteran.

The Teagle Foundation Scholarship Program for Children of Exxon Employees

For children of present, former or deceased Exxon employees, scholarships of up to $8,000 based on financial need are available to students enrolled full time in graduate programs. Tylenol Brand Health Education Scholarships

Students preparing for health-related careers can apply for one of 170 grants from the Tylenol Brand Scholarship Fund. This year’s fund will total $250,000, in the form of $5,000 and $1,000 grants. Winners are selected on the basis of community leadership, school activities, grade point average and intended focus on healthcare-related areas of study. USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships

USA Funds®, the nation’s leading education-loan guarantor, announces that it is accepting applications online for a total of $3.2 million in scholarships to assist college students from low-to-moderate-income households. $1,500 scholarships are available to eligible applicants with financial need. United Methodist Student Loan Fund

U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled as full and active members of the United Methodist Church for at least one year and are full-time students attending an accredited college can apply for loans of $1,200 ($6,000 maximum total). U.S. Air Force Scholarships

The United States Air Force offers medical school 1 to 4-year scholarships to all* medical students!

Benefits include full medical school tuition and health insurance, payment for books, equipment, and lab fees required for study, and a $1,907 monthly living expense stipend.

U.S. Army Scholarships

The U.S. Army has 1, 2, 3 and 4-year scholarships (including 100% tuition, a $1,605 monthly stipend, and reimbursement for required books, fees, equipment and health insurance) as well as 1/2 year scholarships available for students attending any accredited Medical, Dental, Optometry, Nurse Anesthesia and Clinical Psychology (PhD) program.

U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program

The U.S. Navy scholarship will pay your full tuition, as well as required book fees, and provide you with a monthly stipend of more than $1,235 per month. You must be a U.S. citizen, in excellent health, willing to relocate after graduation and graduate prior to your 40th birthday.

The Vietnamese Medical Association of the USA Scholarship Program

The Association awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 – $2,000. Prospective applicants must be enrolled as third year medical students, receive financial aid from the school, and demonstrate an interest in serving Vietnamese communities.

The following documents are needed to complete the application process: a letter from the financial aid office stating the amount of aid the student received in 2007-2008, an essay limited to 600 words stating why the applicant wishes to serve the Vietnamese community in the future, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, a medical school transcript and the application.

Wellesley College Scholarships for Graduate Study

A number of fellowships for graduate study are open to graduating seniors and graduates of Wellesley College, while two administered by Wellesley are open to women graduates of any American institution. Awards are usually made to applicants who plan full-time graduate study for the upcoming year. Preference in all cases but the Peggy Howard Fellowship will be given to applicants who have not previously held one of these awards. Awards are based on merit and need.

Horton-Hallowell Fellowship – for graduate study in any field, preferably in the last two years of candidacy for the Ph.D. degree, its equivalent, or for private research of equivalent standard. Stipend of up to $4,000.

Alice Freeman Palmer Fellowship – for study or research abroad or in the U.S. The holder must be no more than 26 years of age at the time of her appointment and unmarried throughout her tenure. Stipend of up to $4,000.

Sarah Perry Wood Medical Fellowship – non-renewable award of $24,000 for the study of medicine.

Mary Elvira Stevens Travelling Fellowship – for a full year of travel or study outside of the U.S. Any scholarly, artistic, or cultural purpose may be considered. Candidates must be at least 25 years of age in the year of application. Stipend of $16,000.

M. A. Shackford Fellowship – for the study of medicine with a view toward general medicine but not psychiatry. Stipend of up to $3,500.

Whitney M. Young, Jr., Fellowship

The fellowship provides a scholarship for tuition (graduate) and fees as well as a stipend for living expenses to an entering or continuing student at Boston University. To be selected on the basis of having displayed academic proficiency in a field related to race relations, social work, or urban problems, the applicant should also display qualities of creativity, sense of humor, and commitment to volunteer or social agency work. Ruth G. White and Dorothy C. Wisner P.E.O. Scholarship Funds

The P.E.O. Foundation is accepting applications for the Ruth G. White and Dorothy C. Wisner Scholarship Funds.

Eligible applicants must be female residents of California, seeking a degree in the field of medicine, who have completed their first year of graduate study.

Required application materials include: college transcripts, two letters of recommendation from faculty members, a personal narrative and a letter from The Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS).
