New BUSM Financial Aid Applicants
2016-2017 Academic Year
Please note the following:
- There is no application deadline for financial aid; however, you may start the process NOW.
The application process is organized as follows:
Your Provisional Award will be sent after SFS has received and reviewed the following:
1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
a. The FAFSA is required for federal aid. You may apply for federal aid only if you choose. Our school code for the FAFSA is 002130.
2. The NeedAccess Application.
a. This application is required for institutional need-based aid.
Note: institutional aid will not be awarded without completion of NeedAccess and the FAFSA.
b. Should you want federal aid only, contact Dennis Murphy IV, Assistant Director, at 617-638-5190.
If you do not inform Dennis of this, SFS will continue to await the NeedAccess Application without awarding aid.
3. Submit signed copies of your completed 2014 federal tax return with all schedules and copies of your W-2 forms (for you and your parents*).
a. Federal tax information only – should non-required documentation be received, it will be destroyed.
If you were not required to file federal taxes, this step of the application is not required.
You can upload your tax documentation through the BUSM Supplemental Application via the Financial Aid tab.
*We offer an exception to the parental information requirement for applicants who were born before January 1, 1986.
Your next step would be to submit 2015 tax year information once it becomes available. We will then issue a Final Award based on the new tax data, which will supersede your Provisional Award. It is important that you complete these requirements promptly if you wish to receive a Final Award prior to the medical school decision deadline of Saturday, April 30th. If you choose not to attend BUSM, your financial aid documentation will be destroyed.
SFS reserves the right to adjust your award should your financial circumstances or household size change.
