Application for Financial Assistance Timeline
SUGGESTED DATES
JANUARY 15th
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Boston University’s school code is 002130.
- Once your FAFSA has been processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Read the comments on the SAR to see if additional documentation is required.
- If any corrections are required, change them and return the SAR to the processing center. You will get a new SAR. Follow the same procedures.
- Submit any requested documentation to Student Financial Services (SFS).
- List Boston University on the SAR.
MARCH 1st
Medical Students – submit a CSS Financial Aid PROFILE to the CollegeBoard at www.collegeboard.com. The code for Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) is 3116.
Dental Students (Four Year Program) – submit a PROFILE to the CollegeBoard at www.collegeboard.com if your family’s combined adjusted gross income is $40,000 or less. The code for Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUSDM) is 8928.
If your parents are divorced or separated, include only one parent’s information on the FAFSA and PROFILE. Submit a Noncustodial Parent’s Statement, federal tax return, W-2s and all schedules for the other parent directly to SFS.
If you have not received a SAR for your FAFSA, call (800) 433-3243 (TTY: 800-730-8913) or go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to check on the status.
APRIL 1st
Check the status of your PROFILE by calling the CollegeBoard at (305) 829-9793 (TDD: 800-915-9990) or email helpcssprofile.org.
Submit an original Financial Assistance Application:
New Medical Students – Boston University School of Medicine 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application.
Continuing Medical Students – Boston University School of Medicine 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application.
Dental Students – Boston University School of Dental Medicine 2009-2010 Financial Assistance Application.
Advanced Standing Dental Students – Boston University School of Dental Medicine 2009-2010 Financial Assistance Application – Advanced Standing.
Public Health Students – Boston University School of Public Health 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application (see application for deadlines).
including:
- SIGNED copy of your federal tax return, W-2s and all schedules.
- SIGNED copy of your parents’ federal tax return, W-2s and all schedules. (Not required for Public Health Students.) If your parents will not file a U.S. return, complete the Parent Statement of Non-Filing Status Tax Year 2009. (Not required for Public Health Students.)
- If you or your parents own a business or farm, submit a Business/Farm Supplement with your application. (Not required for Medical or Public Health Students.)
- First-time applicants who are not U.S. citizens must submit a NOTARIZED copy of their alien resident card or visa. Such documentation must also be provided to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO), 25 Deerfield Street, Boston, MA 02215.
- OSFS does not accept 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application photocopies or faxes.
- Retain a copy of the 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application for your records.
It is your responsibility to insure that your 2010-2011 Financial Assistance Application is complete. Submitting an incomplete or late application will result in reduced institutional funding and may delay release of funds for living expenses.
