Andrew Jawa, MD

Assistant Professor

Dr. Andrew Jawa, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine, earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.  He went on to complete a general surgery internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his orthopaedic residency training in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedics Program both in Boston, Massachusetts.  Through his training, Dr. Jawa’s strong interest in upper extremity problems led him to complete two fellowships at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA: one in hand & microvascular surgery and a second in shoulder & elbow surgery.

Dr. Jawa’s clinical interests and expertise include shoulder reconstruction for instability, arthritis, trauma, nerve injury, and rotator cuff disease. Additionally, he is experienced in caring for hand and wrist problems such as fractures, arthritis, as well as nerve and tendon diseases.

Dr. Jawa is devoted to improving the field of orthopaedics through research.  His focus is on traumatic and reconstructive challenges of the upper extremity.  Currently he is working on examining our current treatments for shoulder fractures and ways to improve management of these injuries.  Dr. Jawa knows that improving the field of orthopaedics also includes resident education.  He has a keen sense on the importance of teaching residents through research and by example.

Primarily, Dr. Jawa is committed to providing exceptional patient care.  His clinical interests, education, and experience enable him to care for patients with compassion and expertise.
