ARRA Funding Archive
Challenge Grants, a new research activity type, use the RC1 mechanism. Challenge Grants support research on topic areas which address specific scientific and health research challenges that would benefit from significant 2-year jumpstart funds and for which NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) have selected specific Challenge Topics within targeted Challenge Areas. Research in Challenge Areas should have a high impact in biomedical or behavioral science and/or public health.
The research community sent 20,000 applications for RC1 funding to NIH, in an unprecedented response to the welcome new funding.
