Alzheimer’s Disease Pilot Grants
In Boston University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Core Center, pilot study proposals are solicited. New proposals or initiatives for biomedical, epidemiological, behavioral, legal, ethical, health systems or other research in Alzheimer’s disease are encouraged. Of particular note, proposals using the ADC’s resources or data, and those that support new investigators, or experienced investigators from other fields, or feasibility testing of innovative drug therapy approaches, are encouraged. Two awards of $25,000 each, direct costs, are made for one-year nonrenewable studies. Submit a PDF of the NIH’s PHS398 by Feb. 15, 2009 (five-page maximum, use the Nov 2007 version) by email to Beverly M. Young, bmyoung@bu.edu or contact Richard E. Fine, Ph.D., Associate Administrative Core Director, BU ADC, for more information, rfine@bu.edu. Proposals are reviewed by April 15. This program has been offered for 13 years, and has been successful in leading to NIH grant funding and research publications.
Department of Medicine Bridge Funding
Up to $50,000 is available in the Department of Medicine for bridge funding. Applications are reviewed four times per year by a research advisory subcommittee; deadlines are June 1, Sept. 1, Dec. 1, and March 1. The program got underway quickly with the first two rounds (June and September 2007) attracting six applicants of whom five received funds. Priority is given to applicants whose previously-submitted grant application received a score high enough that bridge funding is likely to help obtain a fundable score on the next try. Submit for evaluation your most recent proposal score and status; pink sheets; statement of how to use the bridge funding to improve the score (not intended for salary); application science component and biosketch. Send all to Maria LoSurdo, Administrator, Department of Medicine, BUSM, 650 Albany St., X-808, Boston, MA 02118, 617-638-6957.
